Why is my senior dog rapidly losing weight and having trouble moving?

Hello, this may be associated to volume/water loss or decreased intake which is the fastest contributor to weight that the body can lose/gain. I would monitor his urination and drinking habits. At 16 years old, which by the way is amazing, I would be most worried about his kidney function or an endocrine problem causing increased water loss. Also, if he isn't drinking as much, he may be running a little dry. Hope this helps.

Her symptoms could be due to any number of things: * intestinal parasites (worms) * endocrine disease (Cushings, thyroid, Addisons, etc) * liver, kidney or other organ failure/disease * cancer * etc...... Her symptoms sound serious and I think you need to have her examined by your veterinarian. Weeks of weight loss and diarrhea is not good. Even if the vet finds that it is just old age there are medications she can be given to help her walk better and be more comfortable.

If kidney disease is diagnosed, she will have to take some medications and go on a special renal diet and likely regularly get fluids injected under the skin. Please take her to the vet soon .

She is getting to be consider a senior pet. Due to that they can develop diabetes or kidney disease or cancer or some other metabolic disease causing the weight loss. A vet is the best option to run blood work to check for these disease as some are more manageable than others. If she goes untreated, you may notice the weight loss continue and even vomiting or diarrhea ensue due to advanced disease. On average it is more economic to treat and manage a disease when they are healthy, so the sooner the better you can find a way to take Roxy in the better. I would recommend taking Trooper to the vet for an exam when you are able to. Your veterinarian can do blood work and x-rays if needed to help diagnose the cause of his weight loss and see what can be done to treat the problem.
