Why is my senior Samoyed's leg weak and tail twitching? Arthritis?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Samoyed | Male | neutered | 53 lbs

I have a 12 year old Samoyed. I have noticed his right back leg starting to get weak. When I touch the leg, his tail starts to spasm. How can I tell if this is just arthritis or something more?

Because of his breed and age, i would say this is very likely to be arthritis, to be sure you will have to bring him to the vet in order to get it checked, the vet can also prescribe pain killers that can help him significantly.
