What does a new hard breast lump mean for my senior dog with kidney disease?

Assuming Kara is in good health otherwise - which should be established with blood work and x-rays of the chest, to ensure that the tumor hasn't metastasized - then I would recommend proceeding with surgery. Mammary tumors can be quite invasive and aggressive, but depending on the grade surgery can be curative. Just because a dog is old, it doesn't necessarily mean they can't have anesthesia - you just have to take precautions, and find a vet who is capable of taking special care. I would also get a definitive diagnosis as to what the mass is before making any decisions, There are lots of benign lumps that grow all over dogs' bodies, and just because this one is in the mammary area, it isn't necessarily an aggressive cancer. A fine needle aspiration biopsy can usually tell you what these are.

I'm sorry but you should be talking to your vet about all these questions. We don't have enough information about her condition(s) to be helpful. It sounds like she needs chest x-rays done. The hard lump under the nipple is probably a mammary tumor. You need to point it out to the vet. Her kidney values look normal from those tests. One liver enzyme is elevated and it could be coming from any number of areas and not just the liver. I would not be worried about the kidneys or liver based on these test results. I would be more worried about the heart, the coughing and the mammary tumor so I suggest x-rays to look at the lungs and the trachea. I do not know what they mean about the heart is slow. You will need to ask your vet for more information.

i am afraid these could be benign or malignant tumors. Since Nealy is an older dog, this is not uncommon. Lipomas (fatty tumors, usually benign, they can actually be hard) or mast cell tumors come to mind when looking at your photos. It could also be a very extreme allergic reaction to possibly a shampoo at the groomers. 1) do not panic 2) make an appointment with your veterinarian for an exam. He will likely want to take a so-called FNA (Fine Needle Biopsy) where he takes a small amount of tissue through an injection needle, puts this on a glass plate and looks at it under the microscope. This will give your vet an idea what he is dealing with. He may also send this material to a lab to be examined. Once you and dyour veterinarian know what type of mass you are dealing with , you can discuss treatment plans.

Poor Meesha has a very large tumour on her mammary gland. It is essentially a breast tumour, they can be benign or cancerous but in this case I think this one looks like a very nasty tumour. The wounds on it are because it has become ulcerated. I would suggest visiting another vet as this needs to be dealt with promptly as it will be very painful. To fix this Meesha would need the lump along with associated nipples removex. But firstly i would recommend having her lungs and lymph nodes checked for any spread of tumour. It will be a very big operation to put her through so you will need to weigh this up. If you dont decide to have this removed you will need to consider having Meesha put to sleep unfortunately. It would not be fair to her to not do something in this case.

A urinalysis and urine culture can be performed to check the urine. Abdominal imaging may also be recommended. The lumps could be benign or malignant growths. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of its cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once the cause of the lump is diagnosed, the vet can discuss treatment options if needed. Her bad breath could be due to dental disease, which is common in senior dogs. This needs to be checked out by a vet as well, and she may need a dental cleaning. So sorry that Lola is having this problem. IV fluids are usually helpful in cases of kidney disease. The best thing would be to have an abdominal ultrasound done to evaluate her kidneys and determine if she does have kidney cancer. There are other possible causes of a high red blood cell count and bloody diarrhea, like a disease called HGE (hemorrhagic gastroenteritis) so, without more information, it is difficult to know she has kidney cancer. If your vet can not do an abdominal ultrasound then you could take her to an internal medicine specialist and have one done. Hope she feels better soon!
