Senior dog not eating, vomiting, and weak. Are these end-of-life signs?

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I'm sorry to hear about Booda, she sounds very sick. Since she is vomiting, acting lethargic, not eating and having neurological signs, I would have her seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible. Especially in an older Golden, cancer is a top differential for the cause of her clinical signs. Your veterinarian will want to do a complete physical exam, along with bloodwork and/or x-rays to look for evidence of disease. Because she is coughing, I'm afraid she may have cancer in her lungs, or less likely something like pneumonia. Unfortunately, you may have to consider thinking about her quality of life. Vomiting, coughing, not eating and being unresponsive to stimuli are not indicative of a good quality of life. I hope this is helpful, and I'm very sorry to hear about Booda.

Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. The symptoms you described for Snoopy sound like she has a medical condition causing her to become ill. My advice is to have Snoopy evaluated with her veterinarian very soon so she can be examined and tested for organ issues, gastrointestinal obstruction, and/or infection that could be underlying. She may need blood work and x-rays or other diagnostic tests to help understand what is causing her symptoms.

It sounds like Buffy is very sick, since she can't keep down water and is also having diarrhea, and is unwilling to move around. I highly recommend that Buffy be seen by a veterinarian. As a 15 year old dog, I am worried about a possible cancerous cause of her clinical signs. Diagnostics such as bloodwork and even an abdominal ultrasound would likely be necessary to determine the underlying cause. At the very least, your veterinarian can discuss possible palliative treatment options to try to get Buffy feeling comfortable again. It is also not wrong to consider the option of humane euthanasia, to help eliminate Buffy from suffering. I know this is a difficult choice, but from what you are describing I don't believe it would be wrong. I hope this is helpful.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Spyke! I think Spyke is very sick. Only you can decide if you want to have him examined, blood work and X-rays done to find out WHY his sick before you decide to put him down. 13 years old is a good long life. If he isn't eating and is vomiting so much he can barely get up and is falling down that is not a good quality of life. If you can not do testing or do not want to put him through a lot then it sounds like it might be time. I am very sorry and I wish you all the very best!

Hello. This is a difficult question to answer, but for the most part you might see loss of consciousness, or extreme lethargy/weakness, no appetite, unable to rise to drink, dull mentation or no response to stimuli, pale mucous membranes, labored or very shallow breathing, & a glazed look to the eyes. These would all be indications that death is near. I hope you are not experiencing this with your pet & this is just a curiosity question. I am concerned with her health based on your description. She could have some serious systemic disease (kidney failure, liver failure, cancer, etc.), heart disease, serious infection, etc. I would strongly recommend having her seen by a veterinarian and have her blood tested to help better determine what the problem could be. I am sorry you are going through this and I sure hope Ivy gets better soon. She may need to be hospitalized depending on what the problem is. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction.
