Should I worry about dark spots in my senior dog's mouth and gums?

This could be normal pigmentation in the gums. You can keep an eye on it now that your are brushing Snoopy's teeth daily. If it begins to grow or change rapidly, then he should be seen by your veterinarian.

As long as its not raised, and its never been ulcerated/bleeding, and its not changing in size, I don't think you need to be concerned. Pigment of skin and mucous membranes (gums, tongue, etc) can change with age and it is not indicative of a problem. If it DOES seem to be changing, if it becomes ulcerated or raised, talk to your vet; if that occurs, then it needs to be biopsied. But as I said already, based on what your saying and on your photo, I'm not worried. This can be a normal change. No one knows exactly why it happens. I'm wondering if you intended to attach a picture - if not, attaching a picture could help us determine what these might be. If they are flat they could be normal areas of pigment, and sometimes dogs will start to have more patches of pigment on their skin and mucous membranes as they age. If they look more red or purple bruising is possible which would be a concern - if you think this might be bruising you should see a vet right away since it could be a sign of a bleeding disorder. If they are raised then they could be oral growths or tumors and you should have a vet take a look.

The black spots may be normal pigmentation of the gums. Dogs can have this color of gums in spots, but the not eating properly isn't normal. It makes me wonder if the black spots could be related to a dental problem. I'd have Silky seen by a vet in the morning.

Its not normal for the gums to become pigmented from losing teeth but if you are seeing it on both sides, I would not be suspicious of anything abnormal. Monitor for any signs of abscesses from the puppy teeth-usually this will look like a red bump. I hope this helps with little Buster!

I would recommend getting your vet to check this closely, it appears in the pictures that the lower canine is making contact with the gum and chronic irritation can cause inflammation, scarring and occasionally tumour changes
