It is best to wait until her 1st heat cycle. Anytime between 1-4 years of age is recommended. The earlier the better, so that you can then spay her afterwards to help prevent health issues that can arise in older unspayed female dogs. HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! When an animal goes in to heat depends usually on the breed. Since Tash is a large breed dog 12-18 months isn't unusual. I would expect Tash should com e in to season soon! Toy breeds tend to go into heat sooner 6-8 months. There is a lot of debate on when to first breed a dog. I know a Veterinarian who breeds her Frenchie's on their very first heat cycle. Some say let them go in to heat once. I am more in the letting them have a heat cycle first. I hope this helps!

8 months is very young to breed. She is not fully grown yet and breeding her now would stunt her growth. I would wait at least until her second heat, better her third heat.That way her body is fully grown and also mentally she will be grown up and then take good care of her puppies.
