Is it safe to give treats to my 5-week-old puppy, and what kind?

I would recommend giving her only dog specific treats, no bones (cooked or uncooked), or rawhides. There's a wide variety of dog treats available, but I personally like dental treats, such as Greenies or Denta Chews. Do not give her any human foods, as many are toxic to dogs. Yes you can giver her treats, preferably soft ones, there are many many options in pet shops, just take a look at the ingredients before you buy them, make sure they are made mainly from good quality meat.

However, be cautious in how many you give and how many different things you give as you don’t want to cause him any vomiting or diarrhea. At 6 weeks of age, your puppy should be eating dog food. You could mix it with a little bit of water or puppy milk replacer to make it softer, if needed. Any type of dog treat would also be appropriate. You could look for a softer treat, like Lean Treats, as they would be easy to eat.

You can use baby carrots or green beans as healthy training treats, if she likes them. Small bites of chicken or roast beef can also work well. If you prefer store bought treats, I like Zukes brand quite a bit for my own dogs - they use very healthy, high-quality ingredients, and their training treats are nice and small.

A lot of prepared meats contain large amounts of salt or seasonings that may upset Jasper’s stomach, and some types of seasonings can be harmful to dogs. Try boiling boneless skinless chicken in water, shredding the chicken, and feeding him small amounts as treats. Treats should not make up more than 10 % of his daily caloric intake, and he should be fed a diet appropriate for puppies.
