What can I safely feed my Lab puppy, and when can I bathe him?

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | 1 month and 17 days old

i am having male lab 47 days dog presently im feeding royal canin starter daily 3 times after soaking in water for 30 min and in between im giving puppy pedigree in very less quantities like ( 25 to 50 grms) . now i am planing to feed boiled egg daily once and Pet biscuits ( Treats for training purposess can i feed it or not???? till now i didnt bathed for my puppy pet shop guy told me not to bath for 3 months!!! should i need to wait ?? shall i feed cooked chicken to my lab (bone less )

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!! It sounds like you are doing the right thing nutritionally with Buddy. I would make sure that the puppy Pedigree you are feeding is for larger breed dogs since he is a Lab. Boiled eggs are a great protein source and good fat source but I don't think you need to give that everyday. Maybe decrease the frequency of that to allow him to grow a slower rate like the larger breed puppy foods account for. Puppies get dirty and need to be bathed. It's ok to bathe him but just keep him warm and dry him off good once you are done. Use a good oatmeal shampoo, preferably one without soap or detergent especially if you are using topical flea and tick products. Soap/detergent shampoos will strip some of those products off, lessening their duration and effectiveness. Cooked chicken without the skin is a good treat or addition to a dogs diet. Just remember we don't want him to grow too fast so don't feed a lot at one time and spread out the frequency of giving extra protein to him. Good luck with Buddy. What's the best food for my 5-month-old Lab puppy who begs for food?

Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Puppies need more calories and vitamins/minerals than adult dogs do help them grow appropriately. Whatever brand of food you choose, it is important to keep them on a puppy formula diet specifically until they are about a year old. After that, it is okay to transition to an adult brand formula. It is ok if your puppy watches you while you eat as long as he doesn't whine or beg for food. To help decrease any begging behavior at the dinner table, you can feed Snoopy his own food at the same time you eat so he is distracted with his own food and never feed him food from the table as this may encourage bad begging behavior! What food brand is best for my 3-month-old Lab puppy's healthy growth?

Labs have a tendency to grow too fast, and as they get older to get fat. Therefore I like to use Nutro large breed puppy dry, then switch to adult large breed, and weight management later in life if needed. I like Nutro because it’s a complete diet and lower in calorie than most of the other dog foods. Dogs like it and there are several different Nutro varieties for you to choose from. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I would be sure he is on a good quality large breed puppy food. I like Purina Proplan or the Royal Canin or Hill's Science diet puppy foods. Feed him more than the recommended amount on the bag. At 11 weeks old he should be seeing your Vet for vaccinations. Be sure he has had his stool tested for intestinal parasites and has been dewormed a few times. Parasites are a huge issues in all puppies. Good luck!

If he is not able to eat kibble yet, I would recommend that you consider a milk replacement formula which you can buy online or at your local pet store. Otherwise, if he is already starting to eat kibble or dry food, I would suggest you start him on a high quality puppy diet such as Purina Pro Plan or a Hill's Science Diet food among others you may find at your local pet store. Also, at this point you can bathe him with a puppy shampoo if needed. Good luck!

How much water, food, and safe treats for my 8-week lab puppy?

He should have water available at all times. Make sure to ensure it is clean. The amount of food given should be as directed on the bag, or can of puppy food that you purchase. The safest bet is the manufactured treats at the pet store. However, if your puppy will eat carrots, apple, or other veggies/fruits, then these are a healthy alternative. Overfeeding treats is a common reason for dogs to get overweight. There are some foods that you need to avoid feeding your dog. My Labrador puppy vomited. What's the right daily food amount?

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. As long as he is acting normally - good energy level, still good appetite - the one episode of vomiting is not overly concerning. You did a good thing by slowly changing the diet. I'm not sure if the "pedigree puppy veg" food is a vegetarian food, but if it is, I would absolutely not feed Goofy a vegetarian diet! These can be extremely dangerous to dogs, and are linked to heart disease, specifically dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) especially in labradors, golden retrievers and dobermans. Please make sure the diet is not vegetarian or grain free. Whatever diet you choose should be formulated for puppies, or "growth", should contain grains, and should say on the side of the bag how much kibble you should be feeding based on Goofy's weight. If the diet you have is not vegetarian, that's great! And he should likely be fed 1.5 to 2.5 cups total per day. I hope this is helpful!
