Is there a safe age to begin giving my pet Cosequin supplements?

Hello. Yes, you can overdose on SOME vitamins, but for the most part, excesses are easily excreted from the body. What is found in food & supplements like Cosequin are minimal & so would require massive amounts to cause an overdose. I feel that the Cosequin brand is an excellent product, & administering the recommended amount of any of the Cosequin products along with Oscar's food will never cause a problem. Hi there. In general, there is no reason that prednisone can't be given with Cosequin DS. As long as the prednisone was prescribed by your veterinarian and you're giving it according to his/her instructions, this should be fine. :)

Hello again! If you are already giving a joint supplement and fish oil, do not give Chloe this additional supplement. Too much fish oil isn't good for her. I'd give the joint tablet and fish oil only. Cosequin is important for her to have for her joint health, and Nordic naturals fish oil is a good brand.

Yes it is perfectly fine to take these medications together as one is an opiate and the other is just a joint supplement (not technically considered to be a drug). There are no contraindications to using supplements along with any drugs for that matter. Take care and best wishes.

Supplements are usually unnecessary as long as you are feeding a formulated dog food. There are various supplements that have shown mixed results about preventing certain diseases and helping with treatment with certain diseases, but the scientific evidence is not enough (despite a great deal of research with some supplements) for me to recommend an owner to give supplements to a healthy dog. The CoQ10 is a more recently studied supplement that does show promise for certain conditions, but again, the evidence is lacking enough that I wouldn't recommend it be given regularly to prevent certain conditions. The CoQ10 supplements and other ones are usually rather safe though, so I can't say it will hurt to give them. I would recommend consulting with your vet before you do in case Gerald has any conditions that would contraindicate their use and so you can get a precise dose for Gerald.
