Why is my 10-month-old puppy shedding so much? Is it normal?

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 15 lbs

Could you suggest me a one-in-a-hundred kinda solution to Garry's hair fall? He is almost a 10 month old kid and has been shedding a lot, maybe due to the heat around, is it? Not sure. Kindly help me with one such highly prolific answer to this problem if possible.

It sounds like Garry may be shedding due to seasonal changes which is perfectly normal. I find that the best way to combat seasonal shedding is daily brushing - you may want to look into using an undercoat brush if his coat is very thick. If he is shedding so much that you can see bare spots, if his skin seems irritated, or if his coat is dull I would recommend seeing your veterinarian to make sure he doesn't have a skin condition or parasites.

What a pretty dog! If Scooby is having hair loss resulting in bald patches of skin or he is scratching excessively then a visit to the vet is recommended to try to determine possible causes which could include external parasites, allergies, or endocrine disease. If there aren't bald areas and he is just shedding excessively then it could be a normal shedding period for Scooby. Dogs tend to go through cycles of shedding and sometimes they may shed much more than others. If his skin seems fine and he's not scratching, his skin looks normal (no redness, scaling, oozing, etc.) it could be part of the natural shedding cycle or due to his age and developing his adult coat. If the shedding seems abnormal, if the skin is involved, if he is losing hair in patches, itching, etc., I recommend you get him seen by a vet who can examine the skin, possibly do some labwork and., based on these results, will be better able to advise you on the cause of the shedding and how best to manage and treat it.

My dog is shedding a lot of undercoat, is it normal or a concern?

Shedding fur, even seemingly large amounts, is completely normal for most dogs. If your dog has never shed like this in the past, or if she is losing so much fur she is having bald patches, then I would be concerned. Poor hair growth and cost condition can be due to poor nutrition/diet or an underlying medical condition like hypothyroidism. If you feel like the amount Soska is shedding is abnormal I would recommend a visit to your veterinarian to have her examined and possibly to have blood work performed. In the meantime you can supplement her diet with some fish oil (specifically omega 3 fatty acids) and see if that helps her coat. I hope this helps. Is it normal for my dog to gain weight and shed so much hair?

If you think he is too think you need to feed him better quality food or feed him more (maybe feed three times a day). If he has not been wormed recently you should also worm him. If he keeps losing weight even after worming and feeding him more food then you should take him to a veterinarian for an exam and blood tests. It is normal for a dog to shed in spring. Keep brushing him to help remove dead hair and to massage his skin with the brush. This will keep his fur in good condition.
