My puppy has pus neck sores. Can I treat them or does she need a vet?

This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria - so called hot spot). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Unfortunately, there is no way for you to treat Rocky Road's sore without seeing a vet. It's infected if there is pus and that requires antibiotics to treat which are available by prescription only from the vet. I would take him into the vet first thing tomorrow.

That heavy discharge generally indicates infection. Your pup will heal the fastest if he goes in to see his doctor. The doctor may give him a systemic antibiotic or may only give him topicals if the lesion is very small. Sometimes these pets can be itchy as well and will get medication for that too. You definitely want to make sure that he cannot itch or lick at that area as it will make it worse. The doctor will also shave the hair as it needs to be exposed to the air to dry up. Unfortunately hydrogen peroxide doesn't help pets with any type of skin condition. In fact we don't use it for any wounds because it can potentially cause cell necrosis (dying off of normal tissue). This appears to be a deep infection, which is likely why it hasn't healed well for you. You can try cleaning it with Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water and the hair needs to be shaved around this to allow the skin to breathe and heal well. I would not place Neosporin on a wound like this, because it likely won't help. You may be able to find a hot spot spray at your local pet store that can be used. However, there is a good chance this won't heal without the help of your vet, who has stronger oral antibiotics and topical medical sprays to take care of this properly. This sounds like a sudden bacterial skin infection. Well there could be lots of causes the treatment is pretty standard with wound cleaning of the area and usually an antibiotic medication. Your veterinarian will need to see Ryder to determine what antibiotic is appropriate as well as have any topical medication as needed. In the meantime keep the area clean and dry as much as possible but do not apply an ointment as it could trap moisture and lead to further bacterial growth.
