My puppy is not eating, lethargic, vomiting, and has bad diarrhea.

Hi! I’ve submitted a question already. But I’m not sure if you received it so I’m messaging again. My shih tzu about 3 months old, female has not been eating for 3 days now. She only drinks water and is always asleep. She also vomits and poops liquid that smells really bad. She really has no energy

I did not see your question earlier, but another expert may have. I am concerned that Aki has parvo, as that what her symptoms sound like to me. Parvo is very deadly. To have the best chance of survival, your dog does need to be hospitalized. Parvovirus treatment consists of aggressive supportive care to control the symptoms and boost your dog’s immune system to help him win the battle against this dangerous disease. Dogs infected with parvovirus need intensive treatment in a veterinary hospital, where they receive antibiotics, drugs to control the vomiting, intravenous fluids, and other supportive therapies. Please take her into a vet now.

    I would be very concerned with Missy based on what you are describing. If she has not been fully vaccinated then I would be concerned that she may have Parvovirus.

    Regardless of what is causing her illness she is becoming weak, probably because of dehydration from the vomiting and diarrhea. She will likely need some antinausea medication, antibiotics, and fluid therapy to help her get well.

    If you do not feel like you can trust your vet to treat her I would encourage you to find another one. If this is not an option then please feel to post more questions or request a consult with the findings of your vet and we may be able to help with recommendations for treatment.

    I would have Chloe seen by a vet. I'm not sure if she is vaccinated or not, but if she isn't, her vomiting could be due to parvovirus. This is an often fatal infection of young unvaccinated puppies of which there is no cure. Her vomiting and anorexia could also be due to GI illness, eating something rotten, or a foreign body. I would take Chloe into a vet immediately to diagnose what is causing her symptoms so she can be treated.

She will need to be on IV fluids, injectable antibiotics, and anti-nausea medication. Your veterinarian is right that she needs to eat. If the medication can control her vomiting, this will help her to keep food down. There is no way to know for sure if she will survive, but it sounds like you are providing her the care she needs. It sounds like your puppy is extremely sick, and parvovirus can take a few weeks for a dog to fully recover. It's very concerning he is not drinking as dehydration is the number one cause of death in these animals. He should see a vet again immediately, please take him into one now. Best of luck.

Unfortunately without seeing Yuki in person, we cannot say if she will be fine or not. Getting her into the vet with these symptoms as soon as possible is her best chance at being fine, and I strongly urge you to take her into an ER vet clinic or find a vet on call to see her now. If you have to wait until the morning, offer her water, no food, keep her warm and comfortable.

Why is my puppy so sick with vomiting, diarrhea after parvo shots?
Poor Daisy! If she's vomiting, acting lethargic, and not wanting to eat or drink much, this is quite serious and she needs to be seen by a veterinarian right away. I would recommend taking her in today for an exam. She may have an illness like parvo at this point, even if she tested negative recently - or she may have some other problem causing her current symptoms. Regardless of the underlying cause, these symptoms can be life-threatening in a puppy this age, so she needs veterinary care right away.
