Why is my puppy's poop still loose after deworming and shots?

Worming puppies properly involves multiple doses to clear out as many of the parasites as possible. The wormers kill the adult worms but then over a 2-3 week period, the immature stages can migrate into the gut again, so repeated treatments are needed. So worms may be causing this problem or many other things including a food change (too rapid), dietary indiscretion (eating things he is not supposed to eat), foreign bodies, infections, etc. It's best to have your vet evaluate Bear again and decide what tests or treatment that he may need to help clear up the problem. These include parasites/worms, other infectious agents (coccidia, giardia) poor food quality, viruses, bacteria from eating garbage or raw meat, food intolerance/allergy (less likely in such a young puppy), or underlying organ diseases such as liver disease, etc. Since Europe is happy, healthy and eating, the most likely cause is either that you are feeding raw meat, or even more likely, a worm that wasn't covered by your dewormer. I recommend you have a fecal sample taken to your vet to check it for eggs and other things like coccidia and giardia. Treatments for these are different so getting an answer is important. Thanks for submitting your question regarding Marmaduke. He needs to see his veterinarian again. Fecal testing will be performed. If it was done on his first visit, it may be repeated or additional tests recommended. Depending on his results, medication will likely be prescribed. A diet change to a prescription low fat diet may be beneficial as well. I typically do not recommend extended fasting on puppies as is common in adults with diarrhea. He is growing and needs to eat. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I would recommend taking the puppy to the vet and having a decal exam performed if it was not done. Most over the counter dewormer will not treat coccidia or giardia which can cause foul, loose stools. There are some malabsorption disorders or inflammatory diseases that can also do this. In many cases anti-diarrheal medications can make things worse by slowing down the GI tract but not treating the underlying problem.

Hello. In the short term, such as a day or two after worming, the stool can become soft. Nothing to worry about as long as Luna is happy, playful & eating well. If the diarrhea persists past a few days, or she develops any lethargy, vomiting or loses her appetite, please see your vet immediately. Hi there. Weight loss in a puppy Bear's age is concerning. It could be the parasite but also diarrhea can cause weight loss quickly. I would recommend taking him into your vet for blood work and fecal testing to diagnose what is causing the diarrhea, and get him the treatment he needs. I hope that helps. Thank you for submitting your question regarding your puppy. Diet and parasites are the most common causes of loose stool in young puppies. If his stool is clear of any parasitic, bacterial or viral infection, then I would consider a new diet. I would consider a sensitive stomach formula such as Purina ProPlan Sensitive Skin and Stomach. Gradually transition to the new food over 5 or so days. If this does not help within 2 weeks, then you may want to consider a prescription low fat and highly digestible diet from his veterinarian.
