My 3-month puppy's tail is limp and swollen. Is it limber tail?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 2 days old

My 3 month old puppy has what I underatand to be limber tail. His tail is straight for an inch or two, then hangs limp. His tail is also a bit swollen beginning where it goes limp. He is not bothered by it and it has never seemed to give him any pain, but it's been 2+ weeks and it still hasnt gone away. Its still exactly the same as when I noticed it and doesnt seem to be any better. I dont know what is wrong with him and I worry his tail will be limp forever

Hello. My first inclination is that Ryder somehow injured the tail. This is typical of a tail being shut in a door or stepped on. True limber tail usually involves the entire tail & generally resolves in a few days or a week. I recommend having the tail evaluated to make sure there are no injuries, especially a fracture.
