Why is my 7-month puppy grazing with her new slow feeder bowl?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! She is adorable by the way! What I recommend is actually limiting the amount of time the food is available to her. For example, you can leave her food out for 1 hour, if she does not eat it all, you take it away and offer it again the next day. Eventually, she will understand that her food is only going to be out for a certain amount of time and will have a more regular eating habit. Another thing you can do is split what you feed her in 2 feedings. Both ways could work well for her. Good luck and have a good evening!

The biggest problem we have with nutrition in dogs is obesity. And it can be hard to measure food on a dog that grazes, so to prevent problems in the future, I would continue to measure Elsie's food twice daily, so you can monitor how much she is eating. There are sometimes problems with having other dogs in the house when one dog is a grazer, but if Elsie is the only dog in the house, let her graze. I hope that helps! Thanks for using PetCoach! It is definitely common for puppies especially to eat like it’s a race! There isn’t generally any problem with it except that Brixy may be more likely to regurgitate that meal right back up (looking almost the same!) Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is important to avoid this as much as possible as this can predispose dogs to things like aspiration pneumonia for example. One thing that has worked for me great in the past for patients that do not eat more slowly with the slow feeder is actually throwing the kibble in a small room like the bathroom for example so that they end up spread out in the room as that will force Millie to eat more slowly as it will take her longer to find them to eat it. While it sounds messy, this has actually worked very well for some of my patients. Good luck and have a great day!

It's good that it's slowed down her eating! That is ok she can only reach one morsel at a time, she will get eat kibble up eventually. This will keep her from gobbling down her food to fast, and lead to her feeling full. I'd keep using it. I hope this helps!

You can feed her smaller amounts more frequently or consider using a slow feed bowl. AN example is shown at the link below.

Eating fast is ok. Gobbling food in 10 seconds flat is not ok. I am being a little silly, but if you think that Hazel is eating too fast, there is nothing wrong with getting a special bowl to slow her down!
