My puppy has demodectic mange. When will his fur grow back?

There is definitely an improvement, it can take several months until the skin recovers completely, just continue the treatment and i would also recommend using Bravecto tablet, this also treats demodex and will help restore the skin.

You didn't mentioned how long ago you started the treatment and how bad was the infection, Demodex can take between a few weeks to several months to clear up completly, it is important to renew the treatment as long as the skin seems to be affected. eventually the skin will recover but it will take some time, i usually recommend Bravecto for treatment.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Bruno! The good news is that Demodex isn't contagious to other dogs or people. Also it is super easy to treat now thanks to the new oral flea and tick medications. The once a month Nexgard or Simparica and the every 3 month Bravecto also kill demodex when prescribed at the normal frequency. Personally I wouldn't use any other medication as these are much safer. I would say it will likely take up to 3 months for Bruno to be cured but you will likely see improvement before then. I wish you and Bruno the best!

It is very rare for a dog to have mange showing up at this age. Possible, yes, but not as likely as if the puppy was older. Chances are that mange was not the original diagnosis. It takes months to resolve and the hair to grow back with mange. I suspect that PX may have just had a bacterial skin infection. As long as what you are doing is working and PX is eating, drinking and acting normally then just continue what you are doing. Sometimes it takes more than one round of treatment to treat mites. If your dog has demodectic mange your veterinarian will have to look at the underlying cause of the repeated outbreak as demodextic mange usually lies dormant until the dog has a compromised immune system. If it is sarcoptes mange then your dog may have reinfected himself. Your veterinarian can prescribe Bravecto, a chew that covers fleas, ticks and all types of mange, even demodectic mange.

A good bath followed by a sulfur lyme dip once a week should help speed things up. Sometimes dogs that have scabies also have a secondary bacterial and/or fungal infection. Systemic antibiotic and/or antifungal therapy is necessary to treat the skin if a secondary infection is present. I recommend to confirm it is demodex mange with your veterinarian. Off label treatments with some of the oral flea preventatives can help.
