My 8-week golden retriever puppy has bumps on belly near penis. Vet visit?

I get concerned with things a lot sooner with such a young puppy. The watery blood would make me recommend an exam by itself. I would want a urine sample to see if there is blood in the urine. The pustules have me concerned about a bacterial infection. I would recommend taking him in for an evaluation by a veterinarian. He might need to be on antibiotics or at least a topical medication. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This looks like a focal infection. You can try to use a medicated shampoo containing chlorhexidine twice weekly for 2 weeks. If there is no improvement or in the meantime this appears to be getting worse, have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Good luck and have a good day!

Congratulations on your new baby! I have a dog named Theo too! Good choice of name! We very commonly see superficial skin infections (an overgrowth of normal bacteria) on the bellies of young puppies. They typically start as red bumps that rupture and form a crust, then leave a darkened ring for a little while until they heal. If that is what is going on with Theo, I would expect the dark areas to get lighter then resolve. If that is not the case, then I would have your vet examine him. I hope that was helpful. It looks like she may have puppy pyoderma, which is a skin infection. The skin of the puppy is quite sensitive, and it can be common for them to get this skin infection around the genital area and stomach. This does need to be treated by a vet, she needs antibiotics, so I recommend you make an appointment for her to see her vet this week to get it treated. I hope this helps!

Hello. It looks like Yukon has some reaction on his skin, but it is impossible to say if this is a mild bacterial infection or an allergic response to something like the grass. It would be best to contact your veterinarian to examine the skin, & then an appropriate medication, shampoo or spray will probably be dispensed to address this. It looks like Pia has a growth on her belly, and it could simply be a benign growth. I would have her seen by a vet for it. Any suspicious growths should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the growth to get a sample of it's cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. The vet can diagnose what is causing the growth and if it needs to be removed or not.
