My puppy keeps biting its tail. Is this normal or a problem?

A degree of tail chasing is normal but there is a condition where is becomes a compulsive disorder. Unfortunately it is incredibly hard to treat compulsive tail chasing and uf it becomes an issue it usually requires the help of both a vet and behaviourist.

This is sterotypic behavior (like obsessive compulsive disorder in people) and is common in GSDs. I don't think you need to do anything about it unless he is injuring himself. This may also be associated with abnormalities of her anus, such as impacted anal glands or an anal gland abscess. This could be behavioral, but he could also have a neurological problem or infection of the viol's gland on the tail. He will need a veterinary exam to rule out medical problem first. If there aren't any you can then address the behavioral issue. You should, in any case, keep him from reaching and biting his tail and thus avoid self-mutilation.

If he is injuring himself or exhausting himself by this behavior, that is not normal. It sounds like Midnight is a happy, playful kitten! He is learning what the tail is and thinks it's a toy. I recommend buying some toys with strings for him to play with. Please only give him these toys when supervised so he doesn't swallow them. Good luck and congrats on your new kitten!

Yep! Welcome to puppyhood! It may even get worse over the next few months, so start puppy-proofing your house now! Play close attention to all electrical cords and any fabric or soft items that could be torn and swallowed.
