Why does my 3-month-old puppy bite my face? Does he dislike me?

This can be frustrating, but is normal exploratory behavior at 13 weeks old. Like small children, puppies put everything in their mouths (hands included) as a means of exploration. Blesszuri is also beginning to teethe and can be expected to start losing her puppy teeth around 16 weeks of age. That said, she should not have a free pass to display this behavior just because she is exploring and teething. Whenever she bites or jumps on you, put an appropriate chew toy in her mouth, walk away and ignore her for a few minutes. When she interacts with you appropriately, praise her positive behavior with play time, belly rubs, or even a small treat. It can take a long time and a lot of consistency, but eventually Blesszuri will understand that she only receives attention and praise when she exhibits positive behaviors and interactions.

Mattie sounds like a cute pup! It's very common for puppies this age to get excited and want to use their mouths when they play. You're doing exactly the right thing by getting her a toy and encouraging her to bite on it instead - this gives her an appropriate outlet for this behavior, and helps her develop good habits about what to bite on as she gets older. The good news is, this behavior normally resolves on its own as the puppy grows - so hang in there, and be patient! :) She may respond better to your dad because he has spent more time working with her, or she may find his voice more intimidating since it's probably deeper and louder than yours. As long as you are consistent about redirecting her to a toy when she gets too wound up, she will eventually get better at this with you also. You can also practice some reward-based obedience training with her, to help both of you learn to communicate better as she gets older.

Very cute picture!!! I would not be worried about the puppy spreading disease to you through the bite. Puppies love to play! It is most likely darky was trying to play with you. I would recommend keeping Darby away from your face and start working on training. Simple commands of sit/stay and Coke are great places to start!

A couple of things you can do to help stop this behavior is to stick your thumb in Tommy's mouth every time he bites and hold your thumb in the mouth until he finds it annoying. If he comes back to bite after, repeat this again and again. Eventually, I find that the puppies will just walk up and lick your hand after a while because they do not want your thumb being stuck in their mouth. If that does not work, you can use a spray bottle filled with water and spritz Tommy in the face while saying "off" to help deter the behavior. I hope this helps! Ensure that he has appropriate, safe toys for him to chew on, such as rubber Kongs filled with treats or peanut butter, and rope toys. You can also try putting these toys in the freezer, which some puppies like as it helps soothe their irritated gums. When Shadow tries to bite you, give a firm "ow" or "no". Never hit him or use any other form of physical punishment. Instead, offer him his chew toy to play with on his own. Walk away, cross your arms and legs and do not give him any further attention. If this does not work, you may need to find a toy that is more rewarding for him, such as putting something even more tasty into the toy. The good news is that teething will finish by 6 months, so this should be a temporary behaviour. However, we want to teach Shadow what is appropriate to chew on, and what is not. That is a lot going on and it sounds like Oggy would benefit from a visit with a trainer or veterinary behaviorist in your area, especially if she is being aggressive to the point of bruising or drawing blood. Aggression usually looks very different from play/exploration biting and can include low growling, stiff bodies, showing the whites of the eyes, hair raising on the back, baring teeth, and then nipping or biting. This is unusual in a puppy of this age, so if it is happening, it is best to seek professional help in person ASAP since it is a complex issue that needs to be worked with. If the nipping is just puppy nipping, and she is also chewing on lots of things, it could just be normal puppy behavior and a puppy kindergarten/training classes is a great way to establish some ground rules and get used to interacting with each other in a positive manner. It's not uncommon that puppies don't lick. Puppies are however typically mouthy and bite (in playfulness) a lot. One thing that helps to train puppies not to bite is to imitate another puppy. As soon as Teddy puts his mouth on you, make a high pitched yelp sound and then completely ignore Teddy. Pay attention to him as soon as he calms down. If you are consistent, Teddy will quickly learn that he will not get attention if he bites. Licking behavior typically evolves as puppies get older.
