Why is my puppy biting his back legs and tail after coming home?

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to see Riku is having problems. Without better pictures I would initially guess that fleas are the problem. They typically cause skin problems of the tail, rear end, and up the back. It may be that Riku is allergic to flea bites and sometimes we don't even find a flea on the pet. I would advise seeing your vet and having them work through this case. They can assess a good diagnostic/treatment plan based on physical exam findings and history. Some of the areas look moist or starting to get infected. Your vet will direct the appropriate treatment plan. Good luck Riku!

This is probably caused by an allergic reaction. first of all make sure you de-flea Fenton regularly every month with a high quality spot on (ex. Advantage) as fleas are by far the most common reason for these reactions. If the fleas are not the problem, it could be an allergic reaction to food or an environmental factor. this is more complicated to treat and will sometimes require medications such as Steroids, anti histamines or cyclosporin in order to stop the allergy.

Some puppies can be sensitive in that area, but I would also make sure that Kiba is up to date on his flea medications. That would cause sensitivity in that area. Koda needs to be flea treated every month in order to be protected from fleas, so i could be that he is suffering from fleas causing him to chew himself raw. It would be worth a trip back to the vet for Koda as he sounds very uncomfortable. You can discuss with the vet the use of Apoquel. It is an allergy medication that has been reported to have great success on dogs with bad allergies. I would have him seen by your vet this week to discuss possibly using this medication on him.
