IVDD can affect up to 25% of Dachshunds. You can decrease the incidence by keeping Oscar active and at a healthy weight. Leaner is better as it decreases the strain on the spine. Avoid jumping to prevent trauma which can lead to a ruptured disc. The use of a harness instead of a collar can decrease stress on the neck.
