Why is my pregnant dog's vulva still swollen after discharge?

  Hi there. I'm afraid there's no way to tell whether she's pregnant or has some type of medical problem causing the abdominal enlargement, just by looking at a photo. I would recommend taking her to the vet for an exam. He/she can palpate her abdomen and will likely recommend x-rays or ultrasound to determine the cause of the enlargement, and to give you a better idea of how far along she is if she is pregnant.

  She needs an abdominal ultrasound to determine if there is actually a problem that needs to be treated. Without an ultrasound, it is impossible to know the cause of the swelling and if she actually has an increased amount of fluid in her uterus. Call your vet and schedule an appointment to have her examined.

  This could be a growth, tumor, abscess, or other kind of swelling aside from pregnancy, but the only way to know for sure is to have her examined by a vet. He/she may want to take a sample from the swelling to look at cells under a microscope to give you an idea what the swelling actually is, and how to treat it. If she is pregnant, you can see puppies on xrays or ultrasound after a few weeks of pregnancy, and then you'll know for sure what's causing the swelling in her abdomen. Hope that helps!
