Parvo puppy not eating, stool mixed liquid/solid. Should I be worried?

Poor Nova! Offer him a bland diet. A bland diet can consist of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% boiled white rice. This should all be plain. I also recommend to call the veterinarian and ask about medications to soothe the stomach and prevent nausea like Cerenia, and antibiotic like Metronidazole, a probiotic like FortiFlora and an appetite stimulant like Entyce. I will typically prescribe these puppies an anti-nausea medication to help control any nausea and vomiting. It can help keep food and medications down and make them feel a lot better. Poor puppy. Ruger needs medications which includes antibiotics (injectable Cefazolin or Ampicillin is needed since he isn't eating), anti-nausea medication (i.e Cerenia or Metoclopramide), nutritional support (Nutri-cal, available over the counter perhaps at your local pet store). As long as he is getting fluid therapy he is getting much needed electrolytes which is greatly beneficial towards his improvement because dehydrations is the #1 cause of death in these pets. You can also offer him small amounts of Pediasure using a syringe or small turkey baster.. I hope that your poor puppy is able to fight through this horrible viral infection and makes a full recovery.

It sounds like your puppy is extremely sick, and parvovirus can take a few weeks for a dog to fully recover. It's very concerning he is not drinking as dehydration is the number one cause of death in these animals. He should see a vet again immediately, please take him into one now. Best of luck.

I'm so sorry Nala has parvo. It makes a puppy extremely ill, and I'm not surprised she hasn't eaten there. If the vet is giving her an IV, she may be getting nutrients from that. Check with the vet to see if that is what's happening. She is in the right place, and she has the best chance of survival there. I hope she makes it!

Poor Shadow! I'm glad he's getting treatment from the vet, and I hope he does recover. It's normal that he won't eat, as he's feeling pretty sick, and it may take him some time to want to eat again. As for the bowel movements, if he's not eating, there will be nothing for him to pass at the moment. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Alex! I would worry if Alex is able to hold down liquids but not solids. If this has been going on since you have had him then I would worry about a congenital defect causing constriction of the esophagus (PDA=patent ductus arterosis). if this is a new thing it could be intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections (especially parvo), food intolerance/allergy, or foreign body obstruction. I do not recommend human dairy products in animals as they are lactose intolerance. It is also not nutritionally appropriate for a 4 month large breed dog. I would try canned dog food or wet dry dog food in a mush. See if he can hod that down. If he can not he needs to see a Veterinarian for a work up. We are not legally allowed to diagnose and prescribe drugs over the internet as we can't examine the pet which is required to prescribe drugs. I wish you and Alex the best!
