Spike is nine years old and likely has arthritis which is very painful. Hip dysplasia can cause arthritis as well. Make an appointment with your veterinarian for an exam . He will be able to diagnose arthritis, may want to do radiographs to verify, and will want to do a kidney and liver panel to make sure Spike can safely take NSAIDS to relieve inflammation and pain.
