Why is my old dog skinny but eating, limping, and has diarrhea?

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Female | unspayed

My dog has recently gotten super skinny but IS eating her food. Her back left leg has also recently started limping so where she will not jump on the bed (where she normally sleeps, and the bed isn't high) and today I noticed that she has diarrhea. She is about 13ish. What could the possible mean ?

Poor girl. It sounds like Sprite has several issues going on here. Limping can be caused by trauma, a bone or joint abnormality or even arthritis. Pets that lose weight and have loose stool can have an underlying health problem such as intestinal parasites, an endocrine disorder or even diabetes. I would highly recommend getting some testing done to determine the underlying cause since so many different disease could be at play here. It will shed some much needed light on the situation so that we know how best to treat Sprite moving forward. Best of luck with Sprite moving forward. I hope that she regains her normal weight soon! I would definitely recommend some blood work, if this hasn't been done recently. Older dogs are prone to a number of health issues that can cause decreased appetite along with being less active - chronic kidney disease and hypothyroidism are two possibilities that are both very common. In many cases, these issues are treatable (at least to some extent) once a diagnosis is made, so it's well worth checking for them if you can - hopefully, there are some things you can do to make him feel better for as long as possible, even though he's getting older.

Hello there. Storm sounds like she is very sick. Some issues that might be causing her sickness are diabetes, kidney disease, or certain types of cancer. I recommend taking her to the veterinarian as soon as possible. She will need bloodwork and might also need x-rays to determine the cause of her sickness. She might need to be hospitalized as well. Why is my dog having diarrhea, not eating, limping, and goopy eyes?

Poor girl! It sound like she has a possible infection. Certain infections can affect the limbs and also make the pet feel yucky all around, causing a lack of appetite. I would definitely recommend taking Callie in to your vet for blood work analysis to hopefully pinpoint where the problem is and look for evidence of an infection, so that she is treated promptly with the necessary medications (I.e. Antibiotics) to help her recover from her illness.

Hi there! It does sound like Trooper probably has some type of medical condition that is causing him to lose weight. There are many things that could cause this, so it's hard to say what might be wrong without being able to examine him and run some tests. Some common possibilities in addition to diabetes and cancer in older dogs would include chronic kidney or liver disease, or heart disease. I would recommend taking Trooper to the vet for an exam when you are able to. Your veterinarian can do blood work and x-rays if needed to help diagnose the cause of his weight loss and see what can be done to treat the problem.

Loss of appetite and diarrhea can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. He could be weak on his hind end from not eating before and/or from dehydration so that could be connected. I recommend that you have Kip evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and others depending on the findings on exam.
