My old dog smells bad and has a bump. How can I afford vet care?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund | Male | neutered

My dash hound is old - about 13 years. He has a foul smell to him and a bump on his spine. I can't afford a vet to get him checked. Any ideas as to what I should do? I am prepared for the worst

Poor Chestet! This foul smell could be caused by a yeast skin infection, and in a senior dog, there is always the possibility that a bump is malignant. The bump could also be a cyst, an abscess, or a benign tumor. He really does have to see a vet for these issues, and I can give you some resources that may help you afford a vet. You can see if your vet accepts payment plans, if there is a low cost clinic in your area ,or you can use a credit card to pay for a vet visit.

I hope one of these helps you afford a vet!
