Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed

We got a her at a rescue so we don’t know how old she is. We have had her for over 10 years so she really old. She now tries to avoid us all the time. She doesn’t like being touched ethier. We did get a new dog a year ago. She’s a puppy (3 yrs old). Could that be impacted coco?

It is possible that Coco just doesn't like the new puppy, but there could be other causes for her distancing herself from the rest of the family, including pain from arthritis, cognitive dysfunction, and internal medical illness, among others. I would recommend that Coco have a good checkup with a vet to rule out the easier possibilities. If there are no obvious causes found on examination and lab work, then the vet may recommend treating anxiety or supplements for cognitive dysfunction.
