Where can I take my Mini Schnauzer for fun and good exercise?

Yes it is ok to run with your Mini Dachshund. Each pet is a little different in how much exercise they can tolerate, so the best thing to do is to monitor him for signs of overexertion which includes: stopping often, distressed face (grimacing), excessive panting, etc. However the general rule of thumb is to do light-moderate exercise with your pet twice daily for 20-30 minute intervals. Dogs that have not exercised much should take it easy the first few weeks until their bodies are conditioned, just like with people. And since he is a puppy he should be exercised around 20 minutes twice daily until he is an adult dog (over the age of 1), then he will be able to work out for longer periods.

I would play with Mia in your yard, but I would not take her into any public places until she is fully vaccinated. She is still susceptible to catching highly contagious and deadly diseases like parvo and distemper until she receives that third round of vaccines. The dog park can be a scary experience at first, and if Bella is under socialized may be a bit overwhelming. Many dog parks do have small dog only areas which may be less stressful for Bella as she is a smaller breed. You can start by simply walking around the park (but not entering it if fenced) just to get Bella used to the sights and smells and other dogs around. If she seems calm or excited, you can then enter the park. Often times dogs will be greeted at once by several others, which may be a little overwhelming, so encouraging Bella to walk around and keep moving can help keep the pile off of her. If she becomes too stressed out, nervous, or begins to snap or growl, leaving the park is best to avoid a fight or more stress. Some dogs really like the park, while others don't have as much fun, so don't feel bad if she doesn't enjoy being there. There are many other things you can do such as long walks, games of fetch, and visiting locations together to encourage acitvity and mental stimulation with less stress.

Hi! How exciting! And yes, they do need lot's of exercise. I would avoid places where he can encounter other dogs, especially puppies. The biggest threat is parvo for puppies, and he'll have some immunity from the 2 vaccines, but until a few days after his last vaccines, I would avoid places that other puppies have been or might be encountered. Also make sure he's on a good dewormer (check with your vet what is appropriate for where you live). Have fun with your new puppy!

Yes training can help and this is a common problem with this breed. You can try shock collars or bark collars that spray to discourage that behavior. You can look into having someone come to your house to help

I have fed my dog Purina ProPlan from when she was 6 weeks old up to now - 13.5 years! There will be feeding guidelines on any bag of dog food. Those are a good starting point as to the amount.
