My 7-month injured puppy needs crate rest. How to handle her energy?

I would recommend feeding her dinner in her crate and making this a place where she wants to go and is comfortable for her. I would make sure she has plenty of room to move around in as well. You can try using the Adaptil products to see if this calms her down and relaxes her. It can take some time for a dog to become crate trained but the key is to make it an enjoyable place that she wants to be in. If she associates the crate with food and a place where she sleeps, she will hopefully find the crate less stressful. I hope this helps! This is a very common issue in these breeds mostly because they are highly energetic dogs that require a good amount of exercise. I had a similar issue when I adopted my dog as he is VERY energetic. The best solution for this issue is exercising him daily for a good amount of time. For example, you could consider taking him to the dog park daily. Alternatively, you could consider taking him for a run or even just playing fetch with him. Activity is likely going to help Goku be more quiet at home. Another important thing is positive reinforcement which basically means rewarding him with treats anytime you notice a desired behavior such as being nice and quiet at home. Persistence and consistency are key when it comes to behavior modification in dogs. Good luck!

You just need to ignore Shady crying to get out and keep him in the cage until it's time to take him to the bathroom. Take him out to potty on a leash, and bring him right back into the cage when he's done. I know it's annoying his crying, but he has to rest in order to heal his bone. Best of luck.

Eventually she will learn that it is not ok to do that and will stop waking up at that time to do it. Keep in mind though that she is a puppy and is behaving like a puppy would be expected to. A trick that I have for this which has worked great in the past is putting a bit of peanut butter somewhere in the cage for Zeze to lick. This will help keep her entertained for some time but also will help associate the kennel with something positive. Also, have toys in there for Zeze. Poor Kawaii! Some dogs do unfortunately become stressed in the crate and struggle to get out, which can make things worse. I would recommend asking your veterinarian about getting a tranquilizer for him that you can use as needed, to help keep him calm for the next few weeks until he has recovered. This will help to keep him calm in the crate so that his back can heal.

The first thing to do is have Lola checked by the veterinarian for pain. It's possible she still has pain, it waking her up, then she's distressed. If a medical cause is ruled out, start feeding Lola in her crate and leave treats in there for her to "find". This will create a positive association and should help re-adjust her to the crate.
