My 7-month injured puppy needs crate rest. How to handle her energy?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pembroke Welsh Corgi | Female | unspayed | 7 months and 5 days old | 25 lbs

How can I keep my 7 month old puppy under strict confinement for a week? It's required by the vet because she hurt her leg, but she has so much energy. When she is in a crate, she digs, jumps and moves around so much. She also tries to run whenever there is a chance.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is something that she needs to get used to. There is not necessarily a magic trick to make them stay in the crate without complaining about it. What I find helpful is to reward them for being in the crate. I like to give them a long lasting chew or treat (such as peanut butter) right when you get her inside (not when she complains). She will then associate the crate with something positive which may help make this more ok. This should help. Have a good day!
