My dog is scared. How to keep cats out of my fenced backyard?

Some suggestions are 1) to keep calling the SPCA and police and reporting them. 2) Keep trash cans inside the garage. 3) fence your yard 4) take them yourself to the SPCA 5) get a motion detector noise deterrent. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If the front of the house is more open, louder, has more animal, people and car traffic that could be why. Most back yards are quiet, fenced, tree lined and do not face the road. Most cats are timid and find loud noises very frightening. I wouldn't force the issue and take him out front and risk getting scratched and bitten. Looking out a window is different then being outside. The sounds are muffled and he realizes the protective nature of being indoors. Have a great day!

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! From your description, I would recommend establishing a method of training Sassy not to bark. I would recommend using a spray bottle filled with water and lightly spritz Sassy in the face when she begins barking at BoBo while at the same time saying "no bark!" and see if this helps. You can also use an empty can filled with coins and throw it in Sassy's direction while saying the same thing in hopes that this will stop the behavior. I hope this helps! If your bunnies are going to be outside, they need to be strictly supervised, so that a cat does not attack them. I hope this is helpful!

Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Charley and your dog are very cute! It is going to be very hard to make this happen. Since they are never inside together there is no way to train either of them or desensitize them to each other. Ideally the dog should have been trained with the cat when she was a puppy. At that time allowed to play with her and learned not to attack the cat with your help and by Charley smacking her. Now your dog is fully grown and can easily hurt Charley and may think she is prey when she runs. The only way to safely do this is to bring the dog in the house with a leash and a basket muzzle on and allow them to spend time together in the same room. Teach the dog to not chase the cat when it runs away. This will take a long time and I don't know if I would ever feel fully comfortable with them alone together. You may be surprised though and find that the dog doesn't chase the cat maliciously. Cats over all take a long time to adjust to change but most of the time they do. She likely despises the dog now because she's never interacted with him. You can try using the Feliway diffusers to calm her a bit. I would highly recommend you consider contacting a local dog trainer who can work with you in person as that is needed. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I think you are asking how to train your cat to not go through the door to the outside deck? Cats are very hard to train. You can use a noise deterrent or water squirt bottle to essentially scare Gracie from going near the door but I don't recommend that. It is environmental enrichment to allow cats to look outside. My suggestion is to keep the screen closed unless you are there on the deck. If you want to allow her on the deck when you can watch her then do so. There are ways to clicker train and positively reinforce animals to sit at the door and not go through it. This will take time and cats do not train as well as dogs. Have a great day!
