I suggest you get a very skilled surgeon to do this procedure as it will be difficult. At this stage though, you are at least 4-6 months away from doing surgery. He is way too young to do it now. After the surgery, he should be able to live a normal life. Those breeders should not ever breed his parents again..

Abdominal ultrasounds would likely cost $300 or more depending on your location. I would advise finding a low-cost spay-neuter clinic in your area. The options your clinic gave you are best practice, and there are owners who refuse to do things like pre-op bloods because they don't want to spend the money. You are correct that doing this is part of doing the procedure properly, but unfortunately there are clients who want the cheapest option possible, meaning things like a pre-ob bloodwork and CBC are left out. Those owners are warned of the risk of not doing them, and they have to sign the estimate saying they refuse those tests.
