I accidentally used Hartz cat flea powder on my dog. Is he okay?

The problem is usually the reverse, using dog flea treatment on cats. Cats are more sensitive to some ingredients than dogs. Your dog should be fine, especially if it is one of the products that is used on both species, just the dosage is different. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! You can call the number on the back of the Hartz product. It is free advice on the product. They can tell you if the drooling is related and if you have to worry. It is possible she licked some of it off her fur. Personally I would recommend washing the product off with Dawn shampoo, repeatedly at the location of application. I wouldn't use it again for sure. I do think she will likely be fine. That number on the package is very helpful. I wish Pantera the best!

Yes, the products can be used together. Zodiac flea and tick powder can be quite irritating to a dog's eyes, nose, throat and lungs and is a very harsh chemical, so it is not my favorite method of flea control. I much prefer using a topical spot-op or oral flea and tick prevention which will work better and likely be safer and less irritating for Alice. The oral tablets are safe, but are likely not as effective as the other products on the market. Hello & thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Cats will often exhibit signs of toxicity within 30 minutes to an hour, so by you washing the flea treatment off so quickly & Cheeto has not shown any symptoms so far, he should be fine. Good job.

Great job with the bath! If they are not showing any signs of illness (behavior changes, vomiting, diarrhea, etc) they are probably ok, especially the one that got the bath. Ideally if you can get the other cat and either bathe him or at the very least wipe him down with a wet washcloth. I would continue to monitor them for any signs and definitely if you notice any changes with them they should be seen by a vet immediately. Also, i think after 5 years the efficacy is greatly reduced, but the best place to get that information is by calling the Animal Poison Control Hotline.

Hello, sorry to hear about your accident. Yes the medicine will work on her and she should be after receiving the wrong dose. This medications is reported to have more toxic effects when ingested than when applied topically. Things you can consider is to bathe your dog if you believe she is feeling unwell to wash the medication off her coat. Call the ASPCA poison control line for better information about the toxic dose of imidacloprid, one of the active ingredients of this medications. Their number is (888) 426-4435.
