What's the right way to give liquid medicine to my dog with a syringe?

By fighting Sadie to try to give the liquid meds, it will be very hard to give them now! Just by holding a syringe she may run away. If possible, I would talk to your vet about switching this particular medication to a pill form, since that is easy to give her, or use a different medication. Many liquid medications have a bitter taste, or use a flavor that is unpalatable to dogs. If this particular liquid medication is necessary, you may talk to your vet about compounding it into a different flavor. If you still want to try to give this medication, you can try to wrap Sadie snuggly in a blanket (think doggie burrito) and quickly give it in her mouth, or even place it in small amounts in her cheek.

Unfortunately there is not much you can do about it. Syringe would be better than the spoon. Depending on the medication you could put it on top of food as well. They are usually good at keeping things out of their airway, so it's rather difficult to make a dogs aspirate even if you give too much at one time. If she aspirated some, then it would definitely be obvious and she would be coughing right away. If you did not see that, then there is no need to worry about any problems developing later on. It is difficult to say whether or not this is a concern for you without knowing exactly what is in the syringe - I'd recommend contacting the veterinarian who prescribed the medication and/or contacting your own physician. You can try spreading some canned food onto a plate and giving it to Dustin to distract him while you're giving the injection. It usually takes dogs awhile to lick food off of a plate. Between the shoulders is usually the easiest spot to give a subcutaneous injection.

Hello. You will need to get just a little bit tough with Pookie. You need to scruff her & tilt her head back so that her nose is pointed straight up. This will actually relax her jaw a bit where you can introduce the syringe into the side of her mouth. Drip the Metacam in & then praise her well. Hi, what medication are you trying to give to Rajah ? It just sounds like a large volume for a cat. There is no magic trick that you can do to give him oral liquid medications without a syringe or without food. I would suggest that you try mixing it with a strong smelling food such as tuna in water and just give it when Rajah is hungry.
