Is my German Shepherd puppy's quality, bone, and coat looking good?

Hi there. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I think that based on the photos Bruno looks very characteristic of a 5 month old GSD. I am not really sure what you are worried about. I would not be overly concerned about anything related to his looks until he is full grown (about 18 months of age). You absolutely don't want a large breed puppy to grow too fast as that can cause joint abnormalities so be careful of this. He should be eating a large breed puppy food so I hope the Royal Canin you are feeding is this type of diet and not just a general puppy food. If you have specific concerns I suggest you take him to your vet for an exam. Again, I think he looks just fine from the photos. Best wishes.

You can always proceed with the DNA test to check the breed which is available online. I would encourage you to have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment to check for possible reasons of his perceived lack of growth. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Jimmy is super cute. I think he is a short haired. German Shepherds are fluffier when they are that young until their puppy coat falls out. Long haired German Shepherds have longer puppy hair than Jimmy. I hope this helps!

Thanks for visiting Petcoach. This breed often can have white or tannish colors throughout the coat. There are also some German Shephards who are purely white. Hello. This may be a pretty low quality food. And adding unnecessary supplements may do more harm than good. You are much better off feeding a good quality large breed puppy food such as the ones made by Purina, Science Diet & Royal Canin. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Oscar. I recommend that he sees a veterinarian. His fluffy hair coat makes it difficult to assess his weight from a picture. He will be examined, dewormed and started on his vaccines and likely heartworm prevention as well. His weight and diet can be discussed as well. I would not expect his ears to stand up for several weeks yet. I hope this information helps!

You have the right idea. The coat quality of a dog is heavily dependent on the food it eats. That is that a good quality complete dog food for the breed or size of your breed (in your case puppy food) will make it possible for the hair coat to be at its best. However, puppy coats usually look fluffy, not slick and do not have as nice a shine as an adult coat.In an adult hair coat, a black coat will be blacker, the coat will be very shiny, it will feel not dry and also not greasy, there will be no dandruff.
