Is Fromm dog food a good choice, especially for small breed dogs?

Hi, thanks for using Petcoach! I just ask my clients to check for the AAFCO nutritional statement on any food brand they purchase. If the pet eats the food well, is appropriate body weight, doesn't have vomiting or diarrhea then I am happy. Between these 2 brands you will get different answers and reasons probably from every Vet or pet owner you ask. I have clients on both that are happy. Fromm seems to be an excellent choice based on the ingredients list, orijen is better in my opinion but possibly not significantly better and i have no proof whatsoever regarding this, it's just my experience with orijen and the ingredient list generally.

I have used Fromm for years and always been very pleased with their products. Their Four Star line does have grains in it which doesn't bother me for most dogs, but some people do not like that. I have not used the Nulo line before. In looking at their ingredients, they have very good ingredients. One word of caution though if you have a Cavalier is that they are generally not high energy dogs or athletes, so the Nulo line might have more protein and fat than she needs. If you decide to try Nulo with her, you might select one of the lower fat diets. I always tell clients that there is no perfect food. You have to try it with your pet and see how they do on it. It doesn't matter if it has all the right ingredients, if your dog doesn't do well on it. I think both lines are good foods, so select one and see how Chloe does on it. I hope that was helpful. Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Unless your dog has a true grain allergy (which is very rare), then there is no problem feeding grains to your dog. If she likes the food, has good poops, and a good hair coat, and is a good weight, then feed it. The most important thing for dogs is to feed a lower fat, higher fibre diet as they get older (about age 7) as at this age they are more prone to gaining weight and diseases such as pancreatitis which are made worse by fatty foods. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If you are set in between these two, I would recommend Fromm gold that has grain. Keep in mind that grain free diets are not recommended as it has been shown that they can result in heart disease. Best of luck!

I personally do not like Blue Buffalo at all. They have had serious quality control problems which they have admitted due to the fact that they don't own their own factories. They therefore give the recipe to someone to make, and have no control over whether or not the recipe is followed exactly. Plus many colleagues have reported an increase in gas with this food. I would not recommend Blue Buffalo for Fiffy. As for the other two foods, between the two of them I would recommend the Nutro Max. It's a better quality food in my opinion. Just so you are aware, grains are beneficial to dogs and I do not recommend feeding a dog a grain free food unless they have a proven grain allergy, which isn't very common at all in dogs. Food allergies are the least common type of allergies in dogs, and when they do have a food allergy, it is most commonly related to protein not grain. There are very few dogs who have true grain allergies. It is beneficial for Fiffy's health to feed her grains, and brands that I would recommend include Royal Canin, Hill's Science diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. I hope this all helps!

There are a few that stand out in my opinion in terms of quality and palatability. I really like the Science Diet, Royal Canin and Purina Pro Plan products. A diet that I have found to be of very good quality, affordable and dogs love is the Purina Pro Plan shredded blends. You can find that at your local pet store or online. Otherwise any of the diets of the previously mentioned brands would also be good choices for Harley. Good luck!
