Is FreshPet Select dog food healthy for my picky Yorkie & Morkie?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. If Teddy is healthy and doing well, I would not jump to switching his food. Royal Canin is one of the best pet foods out there. First, be sure that he is not having any other problems causing him not to eat well. Be sure he does not have any mouth pain or GI problems. This may require a vet visit if you're unsure. If Teddy is 6 lbs, his daily amount of food should be around 1/2 of a measuring cup or slightly less, so it is not a large amount of food. Be sure you are using a measuring cup to accurately assess how much he is being fed per day. Be sure that he isn't getting many other treats during the day, as a small dog can fill up quickly with a couple treats. If you truly feel that Royal Canin is not the best of Teddy then Hill's Science diet or Iams Eukanuba are equivalent quality foods. But do not switch his food frequently as you may create a picky eater. Be sure to do any diet changes gradually over the course of a week, mixing the food gradually.

Hello. Personally, I really like Fresh Pet. Many pets will eat this when they will not touch anything else, & a lot of veterinarians are recommending that cats eat a primarily wet diet vs a dry kibble. There is no one "best" food. Choose a diet that is easy for you to buy, that both will eat and both do well on. What they have done is train you to feed them what they want. To break this habit will require patience and consistency. If they aren't already, start a regular schedule for feeding. Dogs thrive on routine, so this should be easy for them. Prepare the meal and put it down for 30 minutes before picking up whether they have eaten or not. Repeat this at the next mealtime. Now, here is the tough part......do not feed them anything between meals. Don't worry, they will not starve. They will eat when food is presented eventually. Switching diets may lead to stomach upset and can reinforce the finicky behavior.

Small dogs like Yorkies are notoriously picky eaters especially when human food is offered. The best advise is to offer a small sized kibble and leave it in the bowl without offering any table food. You can soften the kibble with a little bit of water if that helps. Dogs typically won't starve themselves so he should eat it eventually. I would also have his teeth examined by a veterinarian to make sure he doesn't have dental disease making it painful to eat.

Hi and thank you for your question! Blue Buffalo is a good food. There are many others out there that are also very good. Wellness (small breed) is one of my favorite foods to recommend. They are a good company that makes balanced nutrition and is not over the moon expensive. Others I would recommend are Zuke's and Solid Gold. Royal Canin is also very good too. It really all comes down to calories. A 5 lb yorkie does not need to eat all that much in a day. Jeff for his weight and activity level should be eating about 207 calories/day. I recommend the brand Royal Canin. It is highly digestible without fillers so pets generally have only a small amount of stool production. It is also a great brand for healthy coat and skin. I also like the brand Purina Proplan. I hope this helps.

I'm sorry Sophie has been so sick, but it's great that her liver enzymes have dropped! Royal Canin is a high quality food, and if your vet thinks she should eat Royal Canin GI canned food, then I agree. The vet knows which food would be best for Sophie giving they have been working with her in person, but knowing the quality of Royal Canin as a food, I think it's a great choice for her :-)
