My dog loves catching fireflies. Are lightning bugs toxic for dogs?

Lightning bugs are toxic to small reptiles and amphibians but they generally are not toxic to dogs. A small dog may experience GI upset but diarrhea has many causes. Withhold food for 12-24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet in small, frequent amounts until the stool is normal, then transition slowly to the regular diet. If the diarrhea does not resolve, see your veterinarian.

Most bugs will not harm a dog if eaten. In general, the more colorful a bug is, the more toxic it may be. Rinse his mouth thoroughly with cool water for at least 15 minutes. Monitor for lethargy, drooling, swelling or pawing at the mouth. See your veterinarian if any of these symptoms develop.

It won't hurt Rocky if he eats any flies, they aren't toxic to dogs :-) I would be worried about bees, however, as the will sting the inside of his mouth and cause toxic reactions. I hope this helps!

Snails are generally non toxic to dogs, but the problems come with with the parasites they carry, and if they have been poisoned with snail poisoning. Snails carry lungworms, which will be passed to dogs when the snail is eaten by the dog. Not all snails carry lungworms, so you can monitor Daisy for signs of coughing and difficulty breathing. If she develops those problems, you should take her into your vet. The snail's shell could also potentially cause GI obstruction or GI upset, but it's not too likely. Monitor her for vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, or extremely lethargy, and if you see any of those signs, take her into your vet. Finally, as I mentioned, there can be problems if the snail was poisoned with snail poisoning. Signs of toxicity from snail poisoning include tremors and twitching, which are exacerbated by noise. If you see any of those signs, you need to take Daisy into your vet right away. If she is actually normally, eating and drinking normally, and having normal bathroom habits, I would not worry about her.

While generally eating insects is not detrimental to your puppy (extra protein, and the fun of catching them...), it may be a good idea to teach it not to go after insects, as your puppy cannot distinguish between stinging insects such as wasps and bees and biting insects and spiders and those that do not hurt it. Stings and bites can cause allergic reactions, which can turn into emergencies. Having a full course of vaccinations or not does not make any difference,

Most dogs like to eat bugs, grass, and other items they shouldn't. Keeping an eye on Molly and stopping her from eating anything potentially harmful is a good idea. It would be hard to say if the bugs are safe to eat or not without knowing what bugs she is eating.

Swallowing flies will not cause any harm to Scooter but if he is eating them in abundance, he may develop vomiting / diarrhea. Otherwise, if he is eating them occasionally, this should not be a problem. You could use fly traps to help reduce the amount of flies in the area where Scooter spends most of his time.
