My pregnant dog has upset stomach, won't eat. What can I feed her?

I'm sorry that Ginger is not feeling well. It is concerning that she is not eating well for the past two days. You could try to feed her a mixture of plain boiled chicken and plain white rice to see if this will stimulate her appetite. If she does start eating it and there are no other signs of illness, then I would start to transition her to a puppy food. She should eat puppy food throughout her pregnancy and while she's nursing the puppies. If she still refuses to eat, i do think you need to take her to the veterinarian. They will most likely recommend doing some blood testing and possibly x-rays of her abdomen as there are many things that can cause a decreased appetite. Poor girl! I would offer her a home cooked meal of plain boiled chicken and rice to see if this helps to entice her to eat. If she after a few days of being on vitamins and she still isn't acting right then I would contact your ve to do additional diagnostics. If your vet hasn't already I would ask them to do a fecal to check for intestinal parasites and blood work to make sure everything else looks ok. If she is close to the end of her pregnancy this could all be normal in preparation for labor. A lot of dogs will have a decrease in activity and appetite in the last 3-5 days of pregnancy. I would recommend taking her to your veterinarian to have her examined. It's possible that she has gastroenteritis, an infection, or any number of other diseases. Your veterinarian can take her temperature and may recommend an ultrasound to check the puppies' heart rates and make sure they are not in distress. I typically recommend feeding a high quality puppy food to pregnant dogs, but your veterinarian might recommend trying a higher calorie therapeutic diet. Good luck!

This is not a good idea. Chicken and steak will not be a balanced diet for your dog and the puppies may not develop properly. Try feeding her some good quality puppy food, warm it up in the microwave, canned puppy food may be even better. If she does not eat it, do NOT feed her the chicken and steak as she will then wait always until you feed her that kind of food. It is not a problem if she does not eat for a day, but the next day she will likely be hungry enough to eat the puppy food. Now is the time when the puppies grow exponentially and therefore it is very important to feed her proper dog, best, puppy food.

Poor Willow! Feed her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, she starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. Best of luck.

Poor Princess! She could be pregnant but she could also have something else going on like parasites, eating something she shouldn’t, a bacterial infection or even a viral infection. You can try to offer her some plain chicken (no bones) and white rice to see if you can entice her to eat. If she doesn’t perk up soon, I would have your vet take a look at her. I worry she is going to get dehydrated. Your vet will be able do a fecal, blood work and even X-rays if needed. Your vet will be able to assess her hydration and give her fluids if needed. Your vet will be able to get her started on some meds that are safe for puppies in case she is pregnant to help make her feel better. I hope this helps!
