My dog won't eat his food and vomits. Is it parvo or something else?

Other considerations may include pancreatitis, foreign body in gi tract (partial or complete obstruction), parasites, dietary indiscretion causing gastroenteritis, intussuception, and a few others. All of these would require further testing or evaluation to identify. Because your dog is so small it can easily become hypoglycemic if not eating. As a result, I would recommend seeing your vet or an ER vet if you cannot get in by the morning if symptoms havent inproved significantly. You can rub a little corn syrup or maple syrup on the gums to try and stave off low sugar temporarily. If vomiting becomes more frequent overnight, you shouldn't wait until morning.

I am so sorry to hear this and I am concerned about Diesel! Vomiting can be caused by many different things including dietary indiscretion, foreign bodies, infections, passing illnesses, as well as serious illnesses. It is good that you noted he has had his Parvo shot, although puppies do you need them boostered often and a small fraction of dogs will not respond appropriately to the vaccine. It sounds like an exam and/or other diagnostics can be beneficial. Your vet will likely need to guide you as it depends on her overall clinical picture, but diagnostics and supportive can have the potential to make a big difference in how he feels and how quickly he recovers! I hope it is nothing serious and that he feels better soon!

Poor Charlie! It's great that she doesn't have parvo, but if she can't keep food down and keeps throwing up, she could have a severe GI illness, pancreatitis, or a foreign body. I would take her back into the vet now. She will need a shot to stop the vomiting, and IV fluids for hydration. If the vet hasn't done x-rays to check for a foreign body, I think it would be a good idea for those to be done.

Parvo is typically accompanied by profuse vomiting and diarrhea although can be preceded by a short phase of fever and weakness. Poor appetite can be caused by many things including fever and dental pain and should be investigated by a vet if persisting longer than 24hours in puppies. If you did not receive vaccination paperwork I would be cautious and consider restarting course once he is well again

If Wisky is unvaccinated, the clinical signs you are reporting are consistent with Parvo, though they are also consistent with many other possibilities. Parvo typically manifests in younger dogs (under six months), but we do see it more rarely in dogs greater than one year, particularly those who were never previously vaccinated during their puppyhood. While he is continuing to eat and drink, I have to wonder how much nutrition he is able to keep down if he is continuing to vomit and have diarrhea. If you are unable to get to a vet, you can certainly try fasting for 12 - 24 hours, then feeding a bland diet of boiled chicken / hamburger and rice for 3-5 days. You can also utilize certain over the count anti-diarrheal and antacids, though finding a dose that is small enough for Wisky may prove difficult. All and all, if these clinical signs continue or worsen, I would strongly advise finding a way to get him into the veterinarian. Small dogs dehydrate quickly if they are vomiting and can also become hypoglycemic. The consequences of those two conditions together can have a disastrous outcome. There are options for at-need clients including services that provide credit or funding. Care credit, scratch pay, and private good samaritan funding would be the best places to start. Hello. It is very unlikely that a 9-year-old dog can contract Parvo. But there is any number of conditions & diseases that can cause severe gastrointestinal upsets. I can not tell you if this is a fatal situation or not, all I can say is you need to stay in close communication with your veterinarian, reporting any unusual signs, or indications that your pet is not healing or doing well. My suspicion is this is probably more just from car sickness. If Nittany is acting otherwise normal then I would suggest feeding her a small bland meal (boiled chicken and sweet potato) later today and then resuming her normal diet tomorrow. Dogs with parvo usually have both vomiting and severe diarrhea so I think it's unlikely this is what is going on with Nittany. However, if her vomiting persists or diarrhea, lethargy or inappetance develops then you should schedule a visit with a veterinarian.
