My dog has a white growth on his anus and is licking. Is it serious?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 5 months old | 83 lbs

Witten is a 1.4 year old Labrador. I noticed what appears to be a small, white polyp on his anus. He is licking his butt more than usual, but not excessive. His poops are solid. His ears feel a little warm, but I’m unable to take his temp. He is acting normally otherwise. Should I be concerned?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Witten. I recommend that he sees his veterinarian to have the mass evaluated. Perianal adenomas are benign masses that are more common in intact males. There is a also a cancerous mass that can develop in the same area. Depending on his exam findings, his doctor may recommend surgically removing the mass to obtain an accurate diagnosis. It is good that it is not bothering him. Masses in this region are more difficult to remove if they are allowed to grow. I hope this information helps!
