My dog is whining non-stop after spay surgery. Is this normal?

Since she is taking carprofen she should not be in severe pain. She is probably upset because she has to wear the cone. I am afraid you have to bear it out as she will try to "whine you into submission" ie hopes you will take the cone away. The whining should stop within two or three days. If she keeps whining for longer and you think something is wrong with her or if she gets pale mucous membranes, cannot urinate or stops eating you should take her back to the vet for a recheck,

Poor Bella! I am assuming she is not walking because she is in pain. All dogs react differently after being spayed and some have a higher tolerance to pain. I am not sure if she was given any pain medications but you should call your vet and let him/her know that she seems painful. Your vet should be able to add or adjust her medications to help relieve the pain. Hopefully, she will be feeling better in a few days.

If she is whining then she is in pain even if you can’t see any external injury. Internal injuries or illness can manifest in many ways and because our dogs cannot talk to us all they can do whine or cry. I recommend you have your dog examined by your veterinarian as soon as possible.

Hi there. Different individuals can respond to anesthesia differently, just like humans. In my experience, it's not uncommon for some pets to be wobbly, confused, or otherwise "out of it" for up to 24 hours or so after an anesthetic event. As long as she's responsive and doesn't seem to be getting worse, this is likely normal. If she's still shaky and crying by tomorrow morning, I would recommend giving your vet a call as she may be painful and need some additional medication to help with this. For tonight, you can sit and snuggle with her if she seems to want this, or leave her alone if she doesn't want to be touched. Make sure she has food and water available if she wants it. Monitor for any bleeding from the incision site, pale gums, or increased weakness or acting less responsive, as these could indicate a more serious problem that needs an ER visit.

I suspect Bon Bon is still in a bit of pain. You did the right thing by calling his vet for advice. Yes, it could be true because he hasn't had two full days of pain relief that he still may be a bit painful. This can be normal. Give it a few more days on the medication to see if that helps him. Dakota is likely in pain after the surgery. Your veterinarian should have given you some pain medicine for her to give according to his instructions. You should put her in a quiet place with some water and bland food. If you did not get pain medicine you will need to see your vet in order to get some.
