My dog keeps losing weight, but all her vet tests are normal.

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Can I use colloidal silver instead of antibiotics to treat SIBO in my Schnoodle? All her tests came back normal: bacteria in poop, bloodwork, pancreatic enzymes. This started when I was giving her psyllium husk to help her lose weight. I stopped giving it to her about 2 months ago but she continues to lose weight and is getting worrisome. My vet thinks it is inflammation but a round of antibiotics which helped the diarrhea hasn't helped her put on weight.

I would talk to your vet about doing a GI panel to look for some other issues with the GI tract. There are no studies showing the efficacy or safety of colloidal silver in dogs. Definitely continue with a pet probiotic and talk to your vet about supplementing B12. An abdominal ultrasound may also be a good idea if she continues to lose weight.
