Why is my dog vomiting grass, undigested food, and hair at night?

In the absence of additional symptoms (lethargy, [diarrhea](https://www.petcoach.co/dog/condition/diarrhea-1/), loss of appetite, abdominal pain), most cases of vomiting can be managed at home with a bland diet fed in small frequent amounts until symptoms resolve. Gradually transition over 5-7 days to the regular diet afterwards. If vomiting persists for 24 hours or more, or if new symptoms develop, a visit to your veterinarian is recommended. That said, what you have described may be a condition known as bilious vomiting syndrome. The exact cause is unknown and it can affect dogs of any breed or age. Too long of a time between meals is thought to contribute to the condition. Hello. Vomiting in the morning as you are describing could a few different things, but the most common would billious vomiting. This is when they are hungry and the stomach is empty, so they actually vomit due to acid build up. Try feeding her a small snack before bed, or moving her dinner later than 6pm, and see if the vomiting stops. Poor Sadie. I definitely agree with the recommendation of getting off of her blue buffalo. Throwing up bile in the mornings is usually due to acid reflux or too much acid build up over night. You can resolve this by feeding her last meal of the day about 30-60 minutes before you go to bed and then give her Pepcid right before bedtime. You will need to ask you vet for the proper dose that would be safe for her and her medical history. The vomiting food in the middle of the night doesn't really follow that normal acid reflux trend. You could try to Pepcid and see if anything changes. If not, I would have your vet actually do an exam on her to ensure there isn't anything else going on like a parasite or blood work abnormalities. You could also talk to your vet about putting her on a prescription GI food like science diet I/D. I hope this helps!

The can eat grass because their stomach hurts or vomit from eating grass just because they like grass. This can be an allergy since she is itching also or they may be unrelated. i would have vet check her since she is vomiting and limit the grass she eats. You can try plan chicken and rice as this is bland to make sure she digest it well.

I recommend to have some diagnostics. If your vet seems unwilling to do this, I recommend to get a second opinion. Chronic vomiting is not normal and can indicate many things including an ulcer in the stomach, a foreign object in the stomach, a tumor in the stomach, GI parasites, inflammatory bowel disease or even something like kidney disease. There could be several reasons for vomiting just in the morning, common causes would include dietary intolerance (unlikely if Falkor has been on Nutro for a while), dietary indiscretion (eating something he shouldn't), food allergy, intestinal parasites, bilious vomiting syndrome, among a few less common things. He definitely needs a thorough examination with a vet, and if he starts having diarrhea or becomes lethargic, you should see if the vet can fit you in sooner than Friday. In the meantime, you can see if changing up his food routines slightly to help with possible bilious vomiting syndrome. Feed Falkor a small meal right before bedtime, and give him breakfast first thing when he wakes up. We are trying to limit the amount of time he has an empty stomach at night. After examination and routine testing (like intestinal parasite screening, bloodwork, or xx-rays) to rule out other causes of vomiting, your vet may prescribe an antacid, medications to coat an upset stomach, or medications to help move things out of the stomach quicker in an attempt to manage the vomiting. Abbey may be eating dinner too early and getting hungry before going to sleep for the night. I recommend trying to feed her dinner a little later than normal. The signs you are describing can be unrelated to hunger, especially if Abbey does not eat meals. Vomiting can be caused by intestinal inflammation, hormonal conditions such as Addison’s disease or low thyroid levels. I recommend changing Abbey’s mealtime (if she is fed meals) for a day or two to see if this helps resolve the issue. If not, she should be seen by her vet to rule out the conditions above.
