My dog puked twice today, looks like diarrhea, and smells bad.

As a veterinarian, I become very worried when I hear about vomit that smells like feces. It could be something as silly as Koa ate some poop, and now she's vomiting it up because eating poop is gross. However, it could also something much more serious. Vomit can smell fetid when there is an intestinal blockage, like she ate a sock or corn cob, etc, or if her intestines are bunch up and this is causing and obstruction (this is called an "intussusception" and can happen in puppies.) If she vomits once, and is otherwise doing well-- eating, drinking, playing, etc, then it may be the former scenario. However, if she looks like she feels crummy, she continues to vomit, she's not eating, etc etc etc, I would take her to a vet as soon as you can. Intestinal obstructions are very serious and require emergency surgery. Best of luck to you!

Hello, sorry to hear about Anya. Most GI sings of diarrhea may resolve with a bland diet of plain white rice, skinless and boneless chicken, and low fat cottage cheese. However, other more severe causes of this such as liver or kidney disease, inflammation of the bowel, and ingestion of foreign material may will require that your veterinarian examine Anya. If she develops persistent vomiting or diarrhea then I would recommend having her evaluated by her primary care veterinarian as she may need bloodwork and x-rays to be prescribed the adequate medications. In the interim, monitor her for persistent vomiting (more than 3 episodes in 1 day), diarrhea with blood, severe lethargy, or loss of appetite and contact your veterinarian if you note any. Withhold food for 12-24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet (1:1 ratio of plain boiled boneless chicken and plain white rice). Feed in small, frequent amounts waiting at least one hour between feedings. If the vomiting stops, continue feeding until the stool is normal. Transition slowly to the regular diet. If the vomiting or diarrhea don’t stop, see your veterinarian. The fishy odor is likely from her anal glands. These glands are located around her rectum and are responsible for scenting and marking. They get expressed (or emptied) during defecation but sometimes, they can get too full and inflamed or infected. Occasionally, an abscess can form requiring lancing, flushing and antibiotic therapy.

Anal glands may need to be emptied and it would be good to ensure that there is no abscess formation that may be making them smell more than usual. Also, they can look into what is causing his vomiting. Possible reasons for vomiting include foreign body ingestion and obstruction, dietary indiscretion and pancreatitis, among others. At the very least, they can prescribe medications to make him feel better. Good luck!

Poor Bella! Parvo is very uncommon in adult dogs, but it's possible that this could be the problem if she was not fully vaccinated as a puppy. It's also possible that she could have some other serious GI illness such as pancreatitis, a systemic illness like liver or kidney disease, or she may have ingested something toxic. If this has been going on for more than 24 hours, or if she is acting weak or lethargic, I would recommend taking Bella to an emergency vet today for an exam - he/she can do blood work and x-rays if needed to help determine the problem and get her started on appropriate treatment.

It sounds like your pup is having some sort of gastrointestinal distress. This could be from a virus, parasites, something she ate, or a metabolic issue. Since she has had several episodes of the vomiting and diarrhea over the past week I think I would be a good idea to have her checked out.
