Why did my dog dry heave and vomit white foam after her meds?

Do not give her any more milk, it causes GI upset in dogs and wll make things worse. I can give you a home remedy for her to see if that helps. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. She may be ingesting pieces of the pad...which would not be good as it could cause an obstruction. Throwing up can have many causes such as a problem with the stomach and intestines caused by a food oversensitivity, eating something that does not agree with the dog, intestinal parasites, an intestinal blockage, bacterial infection, viral infection, the weather, food change, stress, etc.  I would fast Willow for 12 hours and then put the dog on bland food for two days, such as boiled white rice and boiled white boneless chicken meat, fed in small quantities over several feeds and then transition back to regular food slowly over a few days. If this does not clear up the diarrhea or if the vomiting increases, or if your dog gets lethargic, it needs to see a veterinarian for an exam as there may be something more serious such as an infection going on.

Hi and thank you for your question on PetCoach! If this is the first time in a while that Bonnie has thrown up, I wouldn't worry too much about this one time incident. It could be she ate too fast or didn't chew her food properly as the kibble and egg (?) appears to be intact still. The white foam is just saliva and mucous from the mouth and stomach lining. It is nothing too concerning. If she continues to regurgitate her food or vomit, I would see a veterinarian soon to ensure there is not something more concerning that is causing the frequent vomiting. Keep a an eye of her for the next day or so. Of course the concern would be a gastrointestinal obstruction from her eating pieces of her toy. At this point, if she has only vomited once, you may continue to monitor her closely to see if it is only going to be an isolated episode. Watch closely for signs associated with an obstruction such as nausea, vomiting, anorexia and abdominal pain. If observed, have her evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible for further assessment and treatment at that point. Good luck and have a great day!

It sounds like Princess may have eaten something naughty (trash, toilet paper, paper plate, sock, toy stuffing, other) that decided to come back up. The fact that she has shown no signs today is promising. If she has eaten and kept it down, you are likely in the clear. Caveat: Do watch her closely for the next 2-3 days because if a smaller piece of whatever it was did get through and gets lodged in the intestine, you'll see lots more vomiting, loss of appetite, lethargy, etc. If this happens, it's time to see the vet. Hi there. If she seems to be doing better now and the vomiting has resolved, it should be fine to continue with the current plan of giving her small amounts of i/d for the next 2-3 days before gradually switching back to her regular diet. If she's still vomiting despite the Pepcid and bland diet, then I would say she definitely needs a vet visit at this point to determine what is causing her symptoms. She may have an intestinal obstruction, pancreatitis, or some type of systemic illness like liver or kidney disease. Your veterinarian can do blood work and x-rays if needed to help diagnose the problem and get her started on appropriate treatment depending on what is found.

Hello. I would not be concerned after everything Bell has been through. This was a lot of stress. Feed her very small meals consisting of 75% boiled white rice & 25% cooked chicken breast for a day or so. Her GI tract should settle down & the vomiting will stop.
