Is it okay to vaccinate my dog if he's experiencing diarrhea?

Diarrhea can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. The runny nose may be due to something like an upper respiratory infection. I recommend that you have Cooper evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Vomiting and diarrhea have many causes including intestinal worms, inflammation, infection, dietary problems (including dietary indiscretion or eating things pets are not supposed to eat, food sensitivities/allergies), ingestion of foreign bodies or exposure to toxins, bacterial overgrowth in the gut, problems in the stomach, intestines, or even problems outside of the intestinal tract/stomach including pancreatitis, kidney/liver problems, metabolic disease (diabetes,etc), endocrine diseases (thyroid or other hormone problems), etc. Usually, in puppies, we worry about intestinal parasites, infection (parvo/coronavirus), foreign body ingestion or dietary indiscretion. A thorough history and physical exam with resultant diagnostics such as fecal tests, blood tests, imaging studies such as x-rays/ultrasound can be done to try to determine what is going on. Puppies should be dewormed starting at 2 weeks of age and then every 2-3 weeks. This should be done multiple times and should continue for 3-4 times after weaning. When puppies nurse, they continue to get infected with intestinal parasites from their mother. Good luck

It could be a reaction. A dog can have vaccine reactions at any point in life. Reactions usually occur within 24-48 hours after vaccination. For the diarrhea, withhold food for 12-24 hours then feed a bland diet (plain, boiled boneless chicken and plain white rice) in small, frequent amounts until the stool is normal. Transition slowly to the regular diet. If t doesn't resolve, see your veterinarian. In the future, separate the vaccines to determine which vaccine caused the reaction. Your veterinarian can pretreat with an antihistamine to avoid reactions. Call your veterinarian and report the possible reaction.

I'm sorry that Jorkey is having diarrhea. It is unlikely that the diarrhea is related to getting the vaccines. It is possible it is due to intestinal parasites or even the de-worming medication, if he received that on Saturday. Stress can also cause diarrhea, so if he was anxious or stressed about the visit, that could have contributed. I would recommend you take him back to your vet to have his diarrhea evaluated. He may need a temporary diet change, probiotics, and potentially an anti-inflammatory medication for his colon. He also may need to be checked for intestinal parasites and be de-wormed with a different medication. I hope he is feeling better very soon!

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! The small lump may be a normal reaction to the vaccine causing a small amount t of scar tissue to form and will likely go away. However, it may also be unrelated and caused by a bug bite or skin infection. As for Tippy’s diarrhea, it is very unlikely that it was related to the vaccines. I recommend having her seen by a vet before she is boarded to rule out intestinal parasites or viral infections that are contagious to other dogs. Also, the stress of being boarded may make her symptoms worse, and the kennel staff may have to take her to the vet with your permission while you are away. Hello. I am sorry Fiddle isn't feeling well. It is important to note that you can have a reaction to a vaccine that isn't an anaphylactic reaction. The vomiting and diarrhea could have been a reaction to the vaccine or could have been gastritis. The fact that cartilage came up is more suggestive that it could have been a gastritis. Either way you won't know for sure. For the third set you may want to pre treat with an anti histamine +\- steroid. Discuss this with your vet. Also you can make sure you have time to hang around the clinic (or nearby) for an hour or so after the vaccines just in case he does have a worse reaction. Good luck with Fiddle.
