My dog is trembling and sad after anal gland expression. Is it Lyme?

Hello and thank you for your post! I am sorry to hear Jasmine is not feeling well. For lymes disease I typically treat for 6 weeks or longer if symptoms persist. You can recheck for lymes and see if she is still infected by sending out a pcr test. Your vet can do this. The test they run at the clinic is typically a snap test thay checks for antibodies. After being infected with lymes, the body develops antibodies to the disease so animals can test positive for years after the infection has resolved. That is why pcr is better for monitoring treatment. This may also not be lymes. Has she been tested for heartworm disease as well? If not, I would have this done. If she has been declining and is showing new symptoms, I would get her seen by a vet and get her examined and have blood work run to ensure nothing serious is going on. Hello. This is a situation that requires a hands on veterinary examination to sort out what is bothering Jax. He may have an anal gland impaction/infection, or allergies ( yes, allergies can cause his butt to itch ). Shivering can also be an indication of a elevated temperature. The fastest way to see what is bothering Jax is to have your veterinarian evaluate him. Then, once a problem is isolated, the proper treatment can be initiated to get him feeling better again. Typically signs of Lyme disease include a loss of appetite, fever, reduced energy, lameness, stiffness, and swelling of the joints. It's not typically vomiting, but it could be another tick borne disease. I'm concerned about him, and I think it's best he sees a vet now asap. I would take him into one first thing in the morning. It's very common for puppies to be a bit sore and lethargic for 24-48 hours after getting a vaccination, just like human kids. Many times, they may not want to eat much or go outside if they are sore. As long as he is alert and responsive, and not having any other symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, facial swelling, etc. it should be okay to give him some time and see how he's feeling tomorrow. If you're concerned, you can call your veterinarian at that point or take him in for a recheck exam to make sure that everything is okay.

Loss of appetite and vomiting can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Sorry that Jax is having this issue. My recommendation is that you take him to a vet as soon as possible for an exam. Unfortunately his symptoms are too vague for me to pinpoint what may be the underlying cause of his illness. He could certainly have an ear infection or a foreign body inside his ear canal. He could also have a problem with the nerve(s) that run through the ear and innervate the head/mouth/tongue. He needs to have an exam in person by a vet so you can get to the bottom of his issue and so he can get the proper treatment.
