My dog is in pain. Can I give tramadol after recent apoquel?

Apoquel use along with many other medications has been evaluated and antibiotics with Apoquel shouldn't have any drug interactions. So please go ahead and continue the Apoquel as directed for her allergies. I hope Rae recovers well from her surgery.

There are no adverse concerns of taking trazodone, apoquel, and rimadyl together. However, the dose of Rimadyl you have listed as 75 mg. That is a pretty high dose for a 41 pound dog. I would typically give 1/2 of a 75 mg tablet twice a day. You can also give 1 full tablet but just once every 24 hours. I think the twice daily dosing is more effective. Tramadol and gabapentin are safe to give together. Tramadol comes in 50 mg tablets. The upper limit of the dosing range for a 78 pound dog is 150 mg. However, I rarely start with the high dose. I usually start with 50 mg every 8 hours and then increase to 100 mg if you feel it’s needed. Best of luck and I hope you find the reason tomorrow! I hope he improves quickly. Legally, I cannot recommend you give her the tramadol, I can't say it's safe without seeing her in person. You should call your vet now to see if it's safe. I recommend resting her for the next 48 hours. No running, jumping, or playing. Take her out to toilet on a leash, and bring her right back in when she's done. If she still appears painful after this time, then I would take her into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from, and can dictate a treatment plan for it. Please do not give her any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. I hope this helps!

Poor Wookie. It is never a good idea to start a medication without having checked the patient before. All the medication have side effects and have to be carefully prescribed and given only for the appropriate disease. There are different medication against pain and Tramadol is one of those but recent studies suggest might not be as effective as we thought, there are other more effective medication. I recommend to have Wookie checked by your veterinarian to asses the level of pain and prescribed the correct medication taking in account all Wookie history and concurrent heath problems, if present. They can be given together but I generally recommend giving the tramadol at night, if only given once a day. It is for pain only and can cause drowsiness. That way she will sleep better and be less painful in the morning. If needed tramadol can be given up to four times daily. Check the dose and frequency with your veterinarian to see what they recommend. The Galliprant is an anti inflammatory medication which reduces joint inflammation thereby reducing discomfort. I recommend giving this with a full meal in the morning so she can be active without discomfort during the day. Please make sure she doesn’t gain weight since that can also increase arthritis pain.
