My dog's tooth is bleeding and bothering him. Is it an emergency?

Poor Peanut! He definitely does need to have this checked out by a vet, since it sounds like he'll likely need to have the affected tooth extracted and the area checked to make sure he doesn't have a broken root still stuck in the tooth socket. But if he seems comfortable right now and isn't overly painful, it should be fine to wait until tomorrow and see your regular veterinarian rather than going to an ER tonight.

I recommend making an appointment with your vet when they open to take a look at it. Though she isn’t acting painful, it may become painful or infected. There isn’t anything you can do at home and no safe medications you can give for pain. If it is broken, she will likely need to undergo anesthesia to have the tooth removed. A tooth falling out is definitely a concern and a sign of severe dental disease. While it is not an emergency tonight, I would recommend an evaluation by a veterinarian as he will likely need anesthesia for a full dental cleaning, dental x-rays and extractions of any diseased teeth.

I would recommend seeking emergency veterinary care for at least pain control tonight if she is uncomfortable, lethargic, salivating a lot, whining or vomiting. If you think her signs are mild, then you can probably monitor her and see your normal vet in the morning. Good luck!

You should take him to your vets without delay. If he is bleeding a lot you vet will have to put your dog under general anaesthesia to stop the bleed. Also, it is important to find out why he is bleeding. It could be due to a problem in the mouth (large wound or cut on the tongue, bleeding mass etc) but it could be a problem with blood clotting.

Thank you for providing such good pictures. It looks like Lars has broken part of his tooth and what you are seeing is the pulp cavity. The pulp cavity is the center of the tooth where the nerves and blood supply run. The problem with having the pulp cavity exposed is that the area will be painful, and bacteria can now get into the tooth. In order to prevent infection, either the tooth needs to be extracted or a root canal needs to be performed. If your vet doesn't perform these procedures, they can refer you to a veterinary dentist who does. But have your vet evaluate Lars and give you their recommendation. I would also recommend discussing Lars' chewing habits, so you can try to figure out what caused this, so he doesn't break any other teeth. Good luck! I hope that was helpful. That is completely normal. Inappetence and mild to moderate bleeding has to be expected after this extraction (which is certainly a major one). If the signs persist 36hours after surgery a check up is needed, otherwise I would not be extremely worried about it.
