Why is my dog throwing up after eating? Sensitive stomach or food?

my 7 yr old bivhon poo is throwing up after meals. would this be from a sensitive tummy ? and should I change his food ?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Zack. I recommend that he sees his veterinarian. There are numerous causes of vomiting such as diet, an infection, intestinal inflammation or diseases outside of the gastrointestinal tract. If he cannot keep food or water down at all, then you need to seek emergency care tonight. Depending on his exam findings, he may need fecal testing, blood work or x-rays of his belly. If he has a tendency to gulp his food he may be eating so fast that it has no choice but to come back up. Try getting him a slow feeder or a puzzle feeder will make him work for his meals and slow him down enough that his stomach can take in the food. Even putting a couple of big river rocks in his bowl (that are too big for him to swallow) may slow him down sufficiently.

If he isn't gulping his food, it's worth getting him checked by your vet to see if there is an underlying condition causing his regurgitation.

There are many different problems that can cause repeating intestinal problems. Pancreatitis, inflammatory bowel disease, Addison’s, dietary intolerances among many others. I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible if the symptoms don’t resolve. They may recommend blood work with this being a recurring problem. Poor Louis! There are many causes for continued vomiting. Certainly parasites like worms and giardia can cause frequent vomiting. Bacterial over growth is also common in younger dogs. Food allergies or intolerance are possible at his age. Lastly a more serious cause can include a partial intestinal obstruction. I recommend to have Louis visit his veterinarian for a physical exam and to rule out some of the more common causes. Treatment will depend on the cause and may include medications or a special diet. Hello, sorry to hear about Zeek. There are multiple causes for Zeek's signs. Given his history and the specs of blood, I would be most concerned with gastritis. This could be caused by multiple reasons to include food sensitivities, infections, ingestion of foreign material, pancreatitis, kidney, or liver disease. You should speak with you veterinarian about obtaining further diagnostics to rule these diseases out. Diagnostics may include bloodwork, abdominal ultrasound, radiographs, and endoscopy. Alternatively, you may need to see an internist to further evaluated Zeek's intermittent vomiting. In the interim, you may try a diet change, however, it may take several weeks to see a response to a new diet. Hope this helps and best of luck.

I would recommend that you have Zoe examined by a vet to see what could be going on. The vet will do an examination and discuss her symptoms and medical and vaccination histories. Well over time excessive vomiting can lead to issues along the GI tract like esophageal erosion, ulcers, etc. So it is best to try and get a handle on things now before they progress. One very possible cause for the vomiting at this consistency is a food allergy. Try discussing with your vet about getting Jax on a hypoallergenic food or highly digestible food such as Royal Canin Hypoallergenic hydrolyzed protein or Iams Intestinal Health Low Residue. These foods make it easier for the pet to digest leading to fewer vomiting episodes and overall good quality of health.

My dog throws up after eating but seems better. Should I worry?

I am sorry to hear that Wyatt is so ill. He needs to have some tests ran by your vet to determine his underlying illness right away so that we know what he needs to get well again. He may have a stomach ulcer, really upset stomach from something he ate, a foreign body obstruction, infection or any number of organ malfunctions. I would recommend fasting him for now to prevent any more vomiting episodes and offering him only small amounts of Pedialyte non flavored to keep him as hydrated as possible. You can offer him a liquid diet (Ensure or pet formulated one from your local pet store) to see if he will keep that down until you can get him in to your vet on tomorrow. Hopefully they can diagnose the underlying problem and get him proper treatment right away. I hope Wyatt is able to make a full and speedy recovery. Best wishes and take care.

My dog vomits after eating, still hungry and active. What to do?

If this has occurred more than once or twice Diego should see a veterinarian. If he is still hungry but unable to keep food down he may have an esophageal disorder or GI blockage. You can try fasting him for 4-6 hours after the last time he threw up and offer just a very small amount of food. If he keeps that down, wait a couple of hours then offer a little more. But if the food is still coming back up he should see a vet to determine the cause.
